the front of the card

My sister, Andrea, has a knack for picking out the best cards to suit any occasion.  As I look around my apartment, I count no less than 4 cards hung up or propped in corners that are from Andrea, sent to me over the years.  They all make me smile and most still make me laugh out loud.

This year, she outdid herself.  The card she sent me on my birthday (along with an album by John Hermanson…er, I mean, The Hopefuls, and a 2-disc Bowie mix) had me gasping for breath as I laughed and laughed and laughed some more.

I don’t think you have to be from the 80s to appreciate this picture. Even though today’s teens and pre-teens tend to look more cleaned up, more together, I just remember that they, in some way, shape, or form, still feel how this girl looks.

bowie "hit atmo" in the 70s

I’m in re-entry mode. I’m back in orbit in New York.  I’m getting my landlegs back, having “hit atmo” (it’s what they say in all the sci-fi shows, maybe) on Friday and then church on Sunday with the Monday routine close behind.  If I can’t be in the midst of family and friends, then I guess it’s time to get back to what I started out doing here.  I’m someone who likes change — I even crave it.  But I am also someone who can hardly stand the transition time in between.  Transitioning can be so hard, and so to you, dear family and friends who read this blog and who listen to me whine, I thank you for being a tour guide of sorts through my transition periods.

David Bowie might also sing about changes.  ch-ch-ch-changes.

And now it’s routine I crave, now that I am through the transition.  Aren’t we humans just too precious?

P.S. My sister, Andrea, is a HUGE Bowie fan, so here you go, dear.  Sorry I could only reference the 2 most obvious Bowie tunes…
